The Flight of the Butterfly - (Lifecycles)
This is an 18 slide PowerPoint introducing the lifecycle of the butterfly. I have included some photographs and videos of the butterfly lifecycle that I observed from when my baby caterpillars arrived to the spectacular metamorphisis into the butterflies’. Alongside the photographs is a poem describing the different stages i.e. the egg, the caterpillar to the chrysalis and then the butterfly’s first flight. The language can easily be adapted to cater for the ages and needs of your children.
It could be a starter for a piece of writing, ‘What happens next to the Butterfly?’
I have included some ideas for creative activities for younger children and there are lots of opportunities to ask what, where and why questions.
Super Summer
This 12 slide PowerPoint highlights some of the super characteristics of summer.
I have included photographs and videos providing visual aids to celebrate this wonderful time of year. The rhyming descriptions throughout the PowerPoint complement the photographs.
This resource would be a great introduction to the summer season and could lead into a piece of writing about a summer holiday or a particular aspect of the summer season. The language can be adapted to cater for the needs of your children. The children could use cameras to take photographs or draw to illustrate their writing.
I’ve included Otis Redding’s
‘Dock of the Bay’ on slide 1.
Bonfire Night - The Gunpowder Plot
This resource is a poem about why we celebrate Bonfire Night. It talks about ‘The Gunpowder Plot’ which could open up a debate about what happened and why. The PowerPoint contains 7 slides which has complementary visuals to the poem. there is a firework recording to play alongside the fireworks on slide 6. The resource can be tailored to cater for the needs of the children. It could be a good introduction to a piece of research about the law on treason, religious aspects leading to a piece of writing. Or an introduction to some firework artwork or both.
Happy Bonfire Night!
